This wallpaper depicts a nuclear weapon test, by the United States, on July 24, 1946. The water spray from the explosion was highly radioactive and many of the close by ships were contaminated. Those that weren't too bad were sent to Hunter's Point in San Francisco, CA, for decontamination. Those which were too contaminated to salvage were sunk off the coast of San Francisco.
